AltFTool vs Sejda

Sejda is the most honest company in this category: every tool page states the free cap up front, Sejda Desktop does the work locally with no upload, and a US$5 week pass exists so you are not pushed into a subscription for one heavy job. The only place we clearly differ is the free web tier — three tasks per hour and 50 pages per merge is a real wall when you are working through a stack of documents. Sejda's feature depth, though, is not something we match, and the list below is not padding.

What Sejda does better

Plenty of people should keep paying for Sejda, and these are the reasons why.

  • Sejda Desktop performs the same jobs entirely on your own computer with no upload, and Sejda says so plainly on every tool page rather than burying it — an unusually honest privacy option from a company whose web product does upload.
  • The feature depth is remarkable for a small team: split by text, by bookmarks or by size, Bates numbering, deskew, N-up, flatten form fields, edit metadata, auto-generated tables of contents and filename footers. These are niche needs most competitors simply do not cover.
  • The in-browser PDF text editor is genuinely capable, editing existing document text rather than just stamping annotations on top.
  • No signup is required even on the free tier, and the US$5 one-week pass is a fair, honest way to pay for a single heavy job without being pushed into a subscription.

And what AltFTool does not do

  • No PDF text editing. Sejda edits words inside an existing document; we can annotate on top of a page but not rewrite its text.
  • None of Sejda's specialist features: Bates numbering, split by text or bookmarks, deskew, N-up, flattening form fields, auto tables of contents.
  • No OCR, and no 21-minute server processing budget — a job that would take a server twenty minutes is not a job for a browser tab.

If Sejda Desktop is already local, why use AltFTool?
You may not need to. Sejda Desktop is a genuinely good local option. AltFTool suits the case where you do not want to install anything — the tools open in a tab and there is no download step.
Does AltFTool limit tasks per hour?
No. Sejda's three-per-hour cap exists to ration server capacity; we do not run the job, your browser does, so nothing needs rationing.
Can AltFTool split a PDF by bookmarks or by text?
No — our splitter works on page ranges. Split-by-text and split-by-bookmarks are Sejda features with no equivalent here.
