About this tool
Plan how much cash to carry in US dollars, UAE dirham, Thai baht, Indonesian rupiah or Canadian dollars, with daily spends converted from rupees.
Pick the currency, add your daily spends and trip length, and see how much cash to exchange. This page brings together 5 separate travel cash budget planner pages (AED (UAE dirham), CAD (Canadian dollar), IDR (Indonesian rupiah), THB (Thai baht), USD (US dollar)) so you can compare them without hunting for the right one.
Open Travel Cash Budget Planner on AltFTool — it loads instantly in your browser.
Choose your currency at the top: AED (UAE dirham), CAD (Canadian dollar), IDR (Indonesian rupiah), THB (Thai baht) and 1 more. On a phone it is a drop-down list.
Fill in the travel cash budget planner for that currency; each of the 5 options keeps its own rules, data and defaults.
Read the result, then switch currency to compare. The page link keeps your currency (?v=aed), so you can bookmark or share it.
AED (UAE dirham), CAD (Canadian dollar), IDR (Indonesian rupiah) and the rest sit behind one picker, so switching currency takes a tap instead of a new search.
Every currency keeps its own rules, numbers and defaults rather than one generic template.
The link remembers the currency you picked, so a bookmark or a shared link opens straight on it.
5: AED (UAE dirham), CAD (Canadian dollar), IDR (Indonesian rupiah), THB (Thai baht), USD (US dollar). Pick one at the top of the tool; the page link updates (for example ?v=aed) so you can bookmark or share that exact view.
Around 20% of your on-ground budget is usually enough. Cards cover taxis, malls, restaurants and the metro, so cash is for the souks, abra crossings, small cafeterias and tips — roughly AED 400 to AED 700 per person for a week at mid-range spending.
Very little — around 10% of your on-ground budget covers it. Cards work at cafés, transit, small shops and taxis, and restaurant terminals prompt for the tip, so a two-week trip often needs no more than C$150 to C$250 per person in notes.
Plan for roughly half to two-thirds of your on-ground spend in rupiah. At mid-range spending near Rp 1,200,000 per person per day, a twelve-day trip works out around Rp 8,000,000 to Rp 10,000,000 per person in notes, with hotels, malls and flights left on the card.
Plan for around half to two-thirds of your on-ground spend in baht. At mid-range spending of about ฿2,000 per person per day, ten days works out near ฿11,000 to ฿14,000 per person in notes, with hotels, malls and chain restaurants left on the card.
For most trips 10% to 20% of your on-ground budget is enough, because cards are accepted almost everywhere. The cash is really for tipping — 15% to 20% at restaurants, a dollar or two a bag for porters — plus the occasional cash-only counter, so a 10-day trip at $120 a day typically needs roughly $200 to $350 in notes per person.
