About this tool
Check whether your taxable income qualifies for the Section 87A rebate and how much tax it wipes out.
Section 87A Rebate Checker tells you whether your taxable income qualifies for the rebate that makes income tax zero for smaller incomes. For FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) it applies the new-regime rebate of up to Rs 60,000 for taxable income up to Rs 12,00,000, the old-regime rebate of up to Rs 12,500 for income up to Rs 5,00,000, and the marginal relief that softens the cliff just above the new-regime threshold. It also excludes special-rate capital gains, which the rebate does not cover.
Open Section 87A Rebate Checker on AltFTool — it loads instantly in your browser.
Pick New regime (default) or Old regime, then enter your Total taxable income after deductions (Rs), putting 111A short-term and 112A long-term equity gains in their own two fields since they are not rebatable.
The Rebate result panel updates as you type with a Rebate applies, Marginal relief applies or No rebate badge, the rebate amount, and the breakdown from Tax before rebate down to Total tax payable with 4% cess.
Compare the note showing the same income under the other regime, then press Copy result for the full breakdown or Reset to restore the defaults.
Applies Rs 12,00,000 / Rs 60,000 under the new regime and Rs 5,00,000 / Rs 12,500 under the old, so you compare like for like.
Shows the reduced tax just above Rs 12,00,000 instead of pretending the rebate vanishes into a huge bill.
Lets you separate 111A and 112A gains, which are taxed at special rates and are not eligible for the rebate.
Under the new regime the rebate is up to Rs 60,000 for resident individuals with taxable income up to Rs 12,00,000. Under the old regime it is up to Rs 12,500 for taxable income up to Rs 5,00,000.
Taxable income — after the standard deduction and any other deductions you claim. A salaried person on the new regime can therefore have gross salary around Rs 12.75 lakh and still land at Rs 12,00,000 taxable.
Marginal relief under the new regime limits your tax to roughly the amount by which taxable income exceeds Rs 12,00,000, plus cess, so a small overshoot does not create a disproportionate bill.
No. The rebate is available only to resident individuals. It is also not allowed against tax on special-rate income such as equity capital gains under sections 111A and 112A.
