About this tool
Large-type scam-safety checklist covering OTPs, spoofed calls, app installs and daily transfer limits, with a money-at-risk figure.
The Senior Citizen Privacy Starter Kit is a sixteen-step, large-type safety checklist for phone and banking scams — OTP requests, spoofed 'bank' calls, apps sent over WhatsApp, remote screen-sharing requests and UPI collect requests — scored by how much of the fraud path each step removes. Alongside the score it shows the money still at risk in a single day, taken from the daily transfer limit set in the banking or UPI app, since that limit is the hard ceiling on what one successful scam can move. Written for older adults and for the family members who help them set up a phone.

Combines the daily transfer limit with the steps still open, so lowering the limit visibly lowers the risk.
OTPs, chat-link app installs, remote-access apps, the phone lock and calling back on a printed number.
No. Banks, delivery companies, government offices and payment apps never ask for an OTP, PIN or CVV on a call, and no genuine process requires you to read one out. If a caller asks, end the call and dial the number printed on your card or passbook.
Screen-sharing and remote-control apps let the caller see your screen and operate your banking app, including watching you type the PIN. No bank helpline needs remote access to your phone, and this request is one of the clearest signs the call is fraudulent.
Register on the Do Not Disturb list by sending START 0 to 1909, calling 1909, or using your operator's DND app. TRAI requires the preference to take effect within seven days; unregistered telemarketers can still be reported through the same channel.
Call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 and your bank the same day, and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. Under the Reserve Bank of India's limited-liability framework, reporting an unauthorised electronic transaction within three working days is what keeps customer liability at zero — this is general information, so confirm the current procedure with your bank.
