Common use cases
- Ordering bricks and cement for a 10 m × 3 m boundary wall in 230 mm brickwork after deducting a 2 m² gate opening
- Check a fitter's quote for a 6 m × 5 m bedroom against the running metres a 3.66 m roll actually needs.
- Costing a full exterior repaint of an independent house before calling painters for quotes.
- Ordering 600 x 600 mm vitrified tiles for a 12 x 10 ft bedroom and needing the box count, not the tile count
Frequently asked questions
Which material options does this tool cover?
11: Brick, Carpet roll, Exterior wall paint, Floor tile, Lawn seed, Mulch, Primer, Wall putty, Wall tile, Wood polish, Wood stain. Pick one at the top of the tool; the page link updates (for example ?v=brick) so you can bookmark or share that exact view.
How many bricks are there in 1 cubic metre of brickwork?
500 standard Indian modular bricks of 190 × 90 × 90 mm laid with a 10 mm joint, because each brick plus its joint fills 0.2 × 0.1 × 0.1 = 0.002 m³. A 230 × 110 × 70 mm traditional brick with the same joint gives about 434 per cubic metre.
How do I calculate how much carpet I need for a room?
Divide the room dimension that runs across the roll by the roll width and round up — that is the number of drops. Multiply the drops by the other room dimension plus a trim allowance of about 100 mm to get the running metres to order. A 6 m × 5 m room on a 3.66 m roll needs two drops of 5.1 m, so 10.2 running metres.
How much area does one litre of exterior emulsion cover?
Around 100-140 sq ft per litre per coat on smooth, primed cement plaster, which is the band printed on most Indian exterior emulsion data sheets. On rough sand-faced plaster expect roughly 70-90 sq ft, and on textured finishes it can drop below 70 sq ft per litre per coat.
How many 600 x 600 tiles do I need for 100 square feet?
About 26 tiles for the bare area, or 29 tiles once a 10% wastage allowance is added. One 600 x 600 mm tile covers 0.36 square metres, which is 3.875 square feet, so 100 sqft divided by 3.875 gives 25.8 tiles before wastage.
How much grass seed do I need per square metre?
Between 2 and 35 g/m² depending on species: about 35 g/m² for perennial ryegrass and tall fescue, 22 g/m² for fine fescue, 15 g/m² for Kentucky bluegrass, and only 5–10 g/m² for Bermuda and zoysia because their seed is far smaller. Overseeding an existing lawn uses roughly half these rates.
How much mulch do I need for 200 square feet?
About 50 cubic feet, or 1.85 cubic yards, at a 3-inch depth — that is 25 bags of 2 cu ft. At a 2-inch depth the same bed needs roughly 33 cubic feet, or 17 bags.
How much primer do I need for 1000 sq ft?
About 9.5 litres for one coat on smooth cement plaster with a 5% wastage allowance, using a wall primer rated at 110 sq ft per litre per coat. On new bare plaster the same 1000 sq ft takes roughly 12 litres and on AAC block or rough masonry closer to 16, because the porous surface absorbs part of the film.
How much wall putty is needed for 1000 sq ft?
Roughly 48 kg for two coats on smooth plaster, since white-cement wall putty is published at 20-22 sq ft per kg in two coats. Ready-mix acrylic putty covers 30-35 sq ft per kg, so the same 1000 sq ft needs about 32 kg.
How do I calculate how many wall tiles I need?
Multiply the wall run by the tiling height, subtract the full area of every door and window, then divide by the area of one tile and add 10% to 15% for cuts. For a 28 ft run tiled to 9 ft with one 3 x 7 ft door and one 4 x 3 ft window, that is 252 sqft gross minus 33 sqft of openings, so 219 sqft of tiling.
How much melamine polish is needed per square foot?
Roughly one litre of ready-to-spray melamine covers 90 square feet as a sealer coat and about 120 square feet as a topcoat. For a typical one-sealer plus two-topcoat schedule that works out to around one litre of ready mix per 33 square feet, or about half a litre of tinned melamine once the 1:1 thinner is accounted for.
