This calculator converts a kitchen counter measured in running feet into the square feet of granite you actually have to buy, and prices the job line by line. Area is the counter length times its depth — 2 feet over standard Indian base units — plus the skirting upstand against the wall and the band under the front edge, all increased by a wastage allowance of around 8% to 10% for cutting loss. Sink and hob openings are charged as fabrication, not deducted from the area, because the slab is bought whole and the hole is cut from it; the offcut is usable stone and its size is reported so you can ask for it back.

Measure the counter length in running feet and multiply by the depth, normally 2 feet over standard base units. Add the skirting — length times the upstand height in feet — and the front band if the platform has one, then add 8% to 10% for cutting wastage. A 12 running foot counter with 4 inch skirting and a 2 inch band works out to about 33 square feet ordered.
