At roughly 750 km or one month from purchase, whichever comes first. This running-in service is the most important one because it drains the initial engine oil that carries metal particles from bedding-in, and skipping the window can cost you the free-service entitlement.
The standard package on most Hero models covers five free services, spaced at about 750 km, then 3,000 km intervals up to roughly 12,000 km. Extended-warranty packages and individual models differ, so check the coupons in your service book and set the count in the planner to match.
After the first service, most Hero models call for an engine oil change around every 6,000 km, using a 10W30 SL-grade oil. Bikes ridden mainly in stop-start city traffic, in heavy dust, or with long idling should be changed nearer the shorter end of the range.
Free-service coupons are tied to both a distance and a date window, and once either passes the coupon is normally void, so the visit becomes chargeable. Warranty claims can also be refused if the service history shows a skipped interval. Talk to your authorised dealer as soon as you realise a window is close.
