A garden soil volume calculator turns an area and a fill depth into the cubic metres, litres and cubic yards of topsoil you must order, using volume = area × depth. It also splits the order across topsoil, compost and grit by parts-by-volume and weighs the result using each material's own bulk density — around 1.3 t/m³ for screened topsoil and 0.7 t/m³ for compost. Useful for filling raised beds, laying soil under a new lawn or top-dressing an existing one.

0.864 m³ — that is 864 litres — to fill it 30 cm deep. In a 60/30/10 mix that is about 518 litres of topsoil, 259 litres of compost and 86 litres of grit, weighing roughly 994 kg in total.
Around 1.3 tonnes for screened topsoil at typical moisture, against about 0.7 tonnes for green-waste compost and 1.6 tonnes for sharp sand. Wet material can be 20% heavier, which matters for trailer and bulk bag limits.
At least 10–15 cm of good topsoil under new turf or seed, and 30–45 cm in a raised bed for deep-rooting vegetables. Lawn top-dressing is far thinner — 3–6 mm per application, never enough to bury the grass blades.
A standard builders' bulk bag holds roughly 0.72 m³, which is about 720 litres, even though it is often advertised as a tonne. Confirm the volume with your supplier, because bag capacity varies from about 0.5 to 0.9 m³.
