Informational feng shui layout and element guide for each room, with bagua area, five-element cycle and colour split.
This guide places a room in the bagua — the nine-area map of a home — and works out how the element of that area stands to the element of the room, using the five-element cycle: Wood feeds Fire, Fire makes Earth, Earth yields Metal, Metal carries Water, Water grows Wood, while the controlling cycle runs two steps ahead so Wood breaks Earth and Water quenches Fire. When the two elements clash it names the mediating element, which is the one the controller feeds and which in turn feeds the controlled element, and it lists the layout rules for that room including the commanding position. Feng shui is a traditional Chinese practice rather than a measurable science, and this is offered as a clear record of what the tradition holds.

Where two elements fight, the tool names the element that turns the conflict into a chain rather than telling you to remove something.
Each area is given with its classical compass direction and its Black Sect grid cell, so either method can be followed.
It is the placement where you can see the door of the room from your bed, desk or hob without being directly in line with it, ideally diagonally across from it with a solid wall behind you. It is the single rule every school of feng shui agrees on, and it applies to the bed, the desk and the stove above all.
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, connected by two cycles. In the generating cycle Wood feeds Fire, Fire makes Earth, Earth yields Metal, Metal carries Water and Water grows Wood; in the controlling cycle each element restrains the one two steps ahead, so Wood breaks Earth, Earth dams Water, Water quenches Fire, Fire melts Metal and Metal cuts Wood.
Earth colours — sand, warm clay and ochre — because a bedroom is a yin, restful room and Earth is the element of stability. Add a little Metal, which Earth feeds, so the palette does not become heavy, and keep strong Wood greens to accents since Wood breaks Earth in the controlling cycle.
Two schools do it differently. The classical school anchors each of the nine areas to a compass direction, so the wealth area is always the south-east; the Black Sect school lays a three-by-three grid over the plan with the bottom row on the wall containing the main door, which puts career at the front centre and wealth at the far left corner. Pick one method and stay with it rather than mixing the two.
