About this tool

Ergonomic Height Calculator

Find the right chair height, monitor height and bicycle saddle height from your body measurements.

Pick the setup, enter your height or inseam and get the measurement to set. This page brings together 3 separate ergonomic height calculator pages (Chair, Monitor, Saddle) so you can compare them without hunting for the right one.

How to use Ergonomic Height Calculator

  1. 1

Open Ergonomic Height Calculator on AltFTool — it loads instantly in your browser.

  2. 2

Choose your setup at the top: Chair, Monitor, Saddle. On a phone it is a drop-down list.

  3. 3

Fill in the ergonomic height calculator for that setup; each of the 3 options keeps its own rules, data and defaults.

  4. 4

Read the result, then switch setup to compare. The page link keeps your setup (?v=chair), so you can bookmark or share it.

Why use Ergonomic Height Calculator

  • All 3 in one place

Chair, Monitor, Saddle and the rest sit behind one picker, so switching setup takes a tap instead of a new search.

  • Built for each option

Every setup keeps its own rules, numbers and defaults rather than one generic template.

  • Shareable view

The link remembers the setup you picked, so a bookmark or a shared link opens straight on it.

Common use cases

  • Set a new office chair's gas lift correctly on the first attempt instead of adjusting it for weeks.
  • Work out how tall a monitor riser or how many books you need before buying an arm you may not need.
  • Setting up a newly bought bike from scratch before the first ride

Frequently asked questions

Which setup options does this tool cover?

3: Chair, Monitor, Saddle. Pick one at the top of the tool; the page link updates (for example ?v=chair) so you can bookmark or share that exact view.

How do I work out the right chair height?

Set the seat to your popliteal height plus your shoe heel — for a 43 cm popliteal height and 2 cm heels, that is 45 cm. Sitting at that height puts your feet flat on the floor with your thighs roughly level and no pressure from the seat edge behind the knee.

How high should a monitor be?

Put the top of the viewable screen at, or up to 5 cm below, your seated eye height. For a 175 cm person on a 45 cm seat that is about 120–124 cm above the floor, which usually means the screen's top edge is roughly level with your eyebrows when you sit up straight.

What is the correct saddle height for my bike?

Multiply your cycling inseam in centimetres by 0.883 to get the distance from the bottom-bracket centre to the saddle top: an 83 cm inseam gives about 733 mm. Anything between 0.875 and 0.892 × inseam is a reasonable working window, and small riders should measure rather than scale from a chart.
