About this tool
The exact KYC papers each Indian account type needs — resident, minor, senior, proprietorship, NRE, NRO and FCNR — with readiness scoring.
This checklist lists the exact KYC papers each Indian bank account type needs, following the RBI Master Direction on Know Your Customer and the Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Rules. It covers resident savings, BSBDA, Small Accounts, salary, senior citizen, minor accounts operated by a guardian or by the minor, joint accounts, sole proprietorship current accounts, and the non-resident set of NRE, NRO and FCNR(B). Tick off what you already have and it scores how ready you are before you go to the branch.

Each document says which rule requires it, so a branch cannot invent an extra one easily.
A Small Account, an NRE account and a proprietorship current account get genuinely different lists.
Ticking documents shows how many of the mandatory papers are still missing before you leave home.
Six: a passport, a driving licence, proof of possession of an Aadhaar number, a Voter's Identity Card issued by the Election Commission, a NREGA job card signed by a State Government officer, and a letter from the National Population Register containing name and address. A PAN card is required separately for tax purposes but is not an OVD.
You can open the account using a deemed OVD for address — a utility bill not more than two months old, a municipal or property tax receipt, a pension payment order showing the address, or an accommodation allotment letter from a government body, PSU, bank or listed company. You then have three months to produce an OVD carrying the current address.
Aggregate credits of up to Rs 1,00,000 in a financial year, aggregate withdrawals and transfers of up to Rs 10,000 a month, and a balance of up to Rs 50,000 at any time. It is valid for 12 months, extendable by another 12 on proof that an application for an officially valid document has been made.
Yes, above the age of 10. RBI's circular of 6 May 2014 allows a minor above 10 to open and independently operate a savings account, though the bank sets limits on the balance and on facilities such as cheque books and internet banking. A younger minor's account is operated by a natural or legal guardian.
