Track sleep stages, snoring, and get a nightly Sleep Score
Galaxy Watch automatically detects sleep and records duration, sleep stages (light, deep, REM), blood oxygen trends, and movement, then combines them into a nightly Sleep Score inside the Samsung Health app.
What you should know
- Sleep tracking runs automatically once enabled — no need to manually start it before bed, though a manual start/stop option exists in Samsung Health if auto-detection is unreliable for you.
- Enable Snoring detection in the paired phone's Samsung Health app (it uses the phone's microphone, not the watch, and must be within range overnight).
- Sleep coaching, available under Samsung Health, gives a personalized sleep "animal type" and trend-based tips after a few nights of consistent tracking data.
- For accurate stage detection, background SpO2 measurement during sleep should be enabled under Samsung Health → Settings → Measurements.
Why it matters
Sleep tracking only produces a genuinely useful Sleep Score when a few dependent settings (background SpO2, consistent overnight wear, charging schedule) are all aligned — understanding those dependencies prevents the common complaint of "the sleep score never seems accurate."
Best practices
- Charge the watch during your shower or getting-ready routine rather than overnight, so it's on your wrist for the full sleep window instead of missing hours on the charger.
- Keep the phone within microphone range overnight if using snore detection, since that feature runs on the phone, not the watch.
- Wear the band slightly looser overnight than during the day for comfort, but not so loose that it affects heart rate accuracy feeding into the sleep stage algorithm.
Common problems and fixes
- No sleep data recorded for a night
- Confirm the watch had at least a few consecutive hours of low-motion wear and sufficient battery — sleep tracking won't log a session if the watch was removed, charging, or too low on battery for part of the night.
- Sleep stages look inaccurate compared to how you actually slept
- Ensure background SpO2 measurement is enabled, since blood oxygen trend data feeds directly into stage classification accuracy; also confirm a snug (not loose) overnight fit.
Tips and tricks
- The Sleep tab in Samsung Health shows a weekly and monthly trend view, which is often more useful for spotting patterns than any single night's score.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to manually start sleep tracking every night?
No — sleep tracking is automatic by default once enabled in Samsung Health, though you can start or edit a session manually if auto-detection misses it.
