Choose an equalizer preset or build a custom sound profile
Galaxy Wearable includes several equalizer presets tuned for different music styles, plus a Custom option on Pro models for manually adjusting individual frequency bands, and an Adapt Sound feature that tailors output to your hearing.
What you should know
- Open Galaxy Wearable, tap the earbuds image, then scroll to Equalizer.
- Pick a preset — Bass Boost, Soft, Dynamic, Clear, or Treble Boost — or select Custom on supported models to drag individual band sliders.
- Turn on 360 Audio (with head tracking on Pro models) under Advanced for supported streaming content to get directional, spatial sound.
- Under Labs, run 'Optimize sound for me' (Adapt Sound), a short in-app hearing test that builds a personalized EQ profile automatically.
- Equalizer changes only apply while the connected phone is the active audio source — a second paired phone keeps its own separate setting.
Why it matters
The default preset rarely matches every genre or every listener's hearing, and a mismatched EQ is a common reason buds are dismissed as 'muddy' or 'tinny' when the hardware itself is capable of much better sound with a few adjustments.
Best practices
- Run the Adapt Sound hearing test in a quiet room for the most accurate personalized profile.
- Reset to a stock preset before troubleshooting audio-quality complaints, since a heavily customized EQ can mask other problems.
- Avoid maxing out Bass Boost at high volumes — it commonly introduces audible distortion on smaller earbud drivers.
Common problems and fixes
- Custom equalizer option isn't available
- Custom band EQ is limited to Pro-tier models; base models only offer the fixed presets.
- Sound quality dropped noticeably after an update
- Check whether Adapt Sound or a preset changed unexpectedly, and confirm the Bluetooth codec (e.g. Samsung Scalable Codec) hasn't fallen back to a lower-quality mode due to interference.
Tips and tricks
- Switching to the Clear preset before video calls reduces low-end rumble and makes voices easier to understand.
Frequently asked questions
Does the equalizer setting sync across all my paired phones?
No — equalizer and sound settings are stored per phone in each phone's Galaxy Wearable app, not on the buds themselves.
