Image compressor: demand and opportunity research

AltF Signals rates "compress image" at 82 out of 100 on AltFTool's own editorial opportunity scale, against no sourced search-volume estimate and high competition. AltFTool ships this: the Image Compressor re-encodes images in your browser through a canvas, with a quality slider, an optional maximum width and WebP, JPEG or PNG output, and downloads a batch as a ZIP. It does not upload your files, and it cannot hit an exact target file size for you.

Image compressor: questions and answers

Are my images uploaded when I compress them?

No. Each image is drawn onto a canvas and re-encoded on your own device, and the result is a local download. The only network requests are for the optional sample images shown on the page.

Why is there no quality slider for PNG?

PNG is lossless, so there is no quality setting to lower. Re-encoding a PNG that was already optimised can leave it about the same size or even larger. For photos, WebP or JPEG at around 70 to 80 per cent quality usually gives a much smaller file.
