Micah Scott's ray tracer opens with a single light source in total darkness. Every line you draw becomes a mirror, a diffuse wall or a transparent pane, and the renderer keeps firing photons until the caustics and shadows resolve into something photographic.
Leaving it alone for a minute after you stop drawing is when the soft bounced light settles and the image turns beautiful.
