How it works

  1. Step 1: Tell it what's going on

Paste the message they sent you, or describe the situation in a sentence or two, like "my match said they love hiking". Members can also add a chat screenshot: it's read on your device, so the image is never uploaded, and the text it finds appears in the box for you to check before anything is sent.

  2. Step 2: Pick a tone and your settings

Choose Playful, Romantic, Teasing or Bold. Optionally set who you're texting (a crush, someone you're dating, a partner, a new match or someone you like) and a reply style: casual, clever, confident or short and punchy. Then press generate.

  3. Step 3: Copy, tweak and keep it going

You get a set of replies to copy, share or save to your favourites. Don't love one? Regenerate just that card. When they answer, paste their reply in and the generator uses the recent messages as context to help you keep the conversation flowing.

How to write a flirty text that actually lands

Last updated

A good flirty text isn't a perfect line. It's a message that fits the person, the moment and the conversation you're already having. Here's a practical guide to reading the vibe, picking a tone and keeping the chat going, plus how to handle the awkward bits like dry replies and long silences.

Read the vibe and match their energy

Before you write anything, look at how they text you. Long messages with questions and emojis mean they're invested and you can be a bit more expressive. Short, quick replies don't always mean disinterest, but they do mean a three-paragraph message will feel like too much.

Aim to match their length and pace, then nudge the warmth up by one notch. If they're joking around, joke back. If they've shared something personal, respond to that first and flirt later. Flirting works best as a response to what they've given you, not as a script you were going to send anyway.

  • Match message length roughly, give or take a sentence.
  • Reply to what they actually said before changing the subject.
  • Turn the flirtiness up gradually; don't jump from small talk to a confession.

Make it about them, not about a line

The quickest way to sound genuine is to mention something specific: a joke from last time, a photo on their profile, the exam they were stressing about. A generic compliment could be sent to anyone. A specific one could only be sent to them, and they can tell.

This is also how to use any line from a list or a generator. Treat it as a starting shape, then swap in one real detail. "Hope your day is going well" becomes "Hope the presentation went well, you were so ready for it."

Generic
“You're really funny.”
Personal
“Your story about the pigeon in the office still has me laughing. How does that even happen?”

Keep it short and end with a hook

Most flirty texts that work are one or two sentences. Short messages are easy to read, easy to answer and don't put pressure on the other person to write an essay back.

The hook is what keeps the conversation alive. End with a question, an either/or choice or a light challenge so they have something obvious to reply to. A statement like "I had fun today" is sweet, but "I had fun today. Same time next week, or are you sick of me already?" gives them a playful way in.

  • One idea per message.
  • Questions beat statements when the chat is new.
  • Either/or questions ("coffee or boba?") are the easiest of all to answer.

Pick the right tone for the moment

The generator offers four tones, and it helps to know when each one fits. Most good conversations move between them rather than sticking to one.

  • Playful: light, silly and low pressure. Best for early chats, new matches and restarting a quiet conversation.
  • Romantic: warm and sincere. Best when the feeling is clearly mutual, with a partner, or after a great date.
  • Teasing: cheeky banter. Best once you already have rapport and they tease you back. Keep it about harmless things, never insecurities.
  • Bold: direct and confident. Best when the chat is flowing and it's time to suggest plans or say how you feel.
Playful
“Important question: pineapple on pizza, yes or no? Choose wisely.”
Romantic
“I keep thinking about our walk yesterday. It was the best part of my week.”
Teasing
“You're lucky you're cute, because that joke was terrible.”
Bold
“I like talking to you. Want to get a coffee on Saturday?”

Timing, double-texting and emoji

You don't need to wait a set number of hours to reply. Answer when it's natural for you, and don't stress if they take a while; people have jobs, classes and families. What matters more is not flooding the chat. If you've sent a message and heard nothing, one friendly follow-up a day or two later is fine. Three in a row is not.

Emoji are tone markers. A wink or a laughing face can stop a teasing line from reading as harsh, and a single heart can soften a sincere one. Use one or two at most, and take your cue from how they use them. If they never send emoji, a message full of them can feel like a lot.

  • Late-night texts read as more intimate; keep them gentle if it's early days.
  • A double text is fine once. After that, let them come back to you.
  • Use emoji to clarify tone, not to replace words.

How to reply to a dry text or a plain "hey"

A one-word "hey" or "lol" isn't always a bad sign. Some people are just low-effort texters, and some are nervous. The fix is to give them something easy and fun to respond to instead of matching their dryness.

Answer the "hey" and add a hook: a playful question, a callback to something you know about them, or a light observation about your day. If you get several dry replies in a row even after you've made it easy, that's useful information too. It might be a better idea to talk in person, or to give the conversation a rest.

Reply to "hey"
“Hey yourself! Quick, best thing that happened to you today. Go.”
Restarting a quiet chat
“Okay, I've been thinking about your coffee order from last week and I have questions.”

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Mention something specific from your last conversation or their profile.
  • Keep it to one or two sentences and end with an easy question.
  • Match their texting pace and energy, then add a little warmth.
  • Compliment their humour, taste or kindness, not just their looks.
  • Suggest a real plan when the chat is flowing.
  • Take a hint gracefully if they're not engaging.

Don't

  • Send the same copy-paste opener to everyone.
  • Fire off several texts in a row when they haven't replied.
  • Tease them about insecurities like weight, money or family.
  • Send explicit messages or photos nobody asked for.
  • Guilt-trip or pressure someone into replying or meeting up.
  • Use "negging" or backhanded compliments to seem cool.

Example conversations

What a message in, reply out looks like. Every reply is a starting point: tweak it until it sounds like you.

  • CrushPlayful

They said: You always know how to make me laugh.

You replied: Careful, I might start aiming for your favourite notification.

  • DatingBold

They said: What are you doing tonight?

You replied: Hoping the answer involves you. Free for a drink around eight?

  • New matchRomantic

They said: I had such a great time today!

You replied: Same here. I’m already looking forward to round two.

Use cases

Common moments people get stuck on. Pick one to start with a ready-made prompt.

  • Replying to a compliment

Someone said something nice and "thanks haha" feels flat. Get a reply that accepts the compliment with some charm and hands the conversation back to them.

  • Restarting a dry chat

The conversation has stalled at "lol" and "yeah". Find a playful hook that gives them something easy and fun to answer.

  • First message on Hinge

Skip "hey" and open with something tied to their prompt or photos, so it's clear you actually read their profile.

  • Good morning text for a partner

Swap the usual "gm" for something warm or cheeky that fits their day, so the morning text still feels like a little gift.

  • Asking someone out

You've been chatting for a while and it's time to suggest meeting. Get a confident, low-pressure way to ask that's easy to say yes to.

  • Long-distance check-in

Different time zones and busy weeks can make chats feel routine. Write something that says you miss them without sounding heavy.

Frequently asked questions

What is a flirty text generator?

It's a tool that writes flirty replies for you based on what's happening in your chat. You paste their message or describe the situation, pick a tone, and get several ready-to-send replies you can copy, tweak or regenerate.

Is the Flirty Text Generator free?

Yes, it's free to use. Each time you generate, you're invited to join with your email; you can skip that twice, and after that an email is needed to keep generating. Joining unlocks unlimited replies and the screenshot upload, and adds weekly texting openers and tips to your inbox.

How are the Playful, Romantic, Teasing and Bold tones different?

Playful is light and fun, good for new chats. Romantic is sweet and sincere, for when the feeling is mutual. Teasing is cheeky banter for when you already have rapport, and Bold is direct and confident, ideal for suggesting plans or saying how you feel.

Can I upload a screenshot of our chat?

Yes, once you've joined with your email. The screenshot is read by text recognition that runs in your browser, so the image itself is never uploaded. The text it finds appears in the box for you to check and edit, and only that text is sent when you press generate.

What should I text my crush?

Something short, light and easy to answer usually works best, ideally with a detail only you two would get. For example, "You popped into my head and I decided not to ignore it." If you're stuck, paste your last few messages into the generator and pick the Playful tone.

How do I make a text flirty without being cringe?

Keep it short, make it specific to them and end with a question. Lean on humour and genuine compliments about personality rather than over-the-top lines. If it sounds like something you'd never say out loud, rewrite it in your own words.

How should I respond to "hey"?

Reply warmly and add a hook so they have something to answer, rather than sending "hey" back. Something like "Hey yourself! Quick, best thing that happened to you today?" gets a real conversation going. You can also paste their "hey" into the generator for more options.

Are my messages stored?

What you type is sent to the server, and from there to an AI model, only to generate your replies; it isn't shown publicly. The generate route doesn't log the text you send, and details like email addresses, phone numbers and links are removed before the model sees them. Thumbs-up and thumbs-down ratings record which settings were used, not what you wrote.

Will it write explicit or sexual messages?

No. Built-in safety checks decline explicit or sexual requests, anything involving minors, and messages meant to harass or pressure someone, and generated replies are checked too. The tool is designed for warm, witty and respectful flirting.

Can I save my favourite replies?

Yes. Tap Save on any reply or collection line and it's kept in your favourites. They're stored in this browser only, so they won't appear on another device and are cleared if you clear your browser data.
