Scope. A single list covering every active genre in the 2020s would flatten meaningful comparisons — this one specifically tracks the artists defining the pop mainstream this decade.
How can an artist with only one or two albums rank this highly?
Artistic ambition and cultural conversation are scored per release, not accumulated over a career — Chappell Roan’s one studio album generated more cultural conversation than several artists’ entire catalogs.
Does viral internet success count toward the ranking?
It feeds cultural conversation, which is 25% of the score, but it cannot substitute for the artistic ambition and live-show criteria — a viral moment alone will not carry an artist far up this list.
