This ranking weights range, critical acclaim and staying power far more heavily than opening-weekend pull, so a handful of enormous box-office names sit outside the top twenty while performers with smaller but sharper filmographies rank near the top. Every entry here is still working, which means positions can and do move between editions.

Range and versatility carry 30% of the score because it is the harder, more durable skill — box-office draw shifts with a single franchise, but the ability to disappear into wildly different roles does not.
Does an actor need an Oscar to rank highly here?
No. Idris Elba, Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet all place in the top twenty without a competitive Oscar between them — critical acclaim is scored on the performances themselves, not solely on what the Academy has recognised.
How is someone like Daniel Day-Lewis, who works rarely, scored against actors who release a film every year?
On hit rate rather than volume. A short, nearly flawless filmography scores as well here as a longer, more uneven one — consistency is measured per project, not per year.
