Percentages, change and ‘X of Y’.
A percentage calculator works out what one number is as a percentage of another, finds a percentage of a value, or measures the percentage increase or decrease between two numbers.
Percentages express a part per hundred, making them the standard way to compare discounts, tax, tips, grades and growth.
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example 30 out of 120 is (30 / 120) × 100 = 25%.
Multiply the price by (1 + rate/100). For a 15% markup on 200, that is 200 × 1.15 = 230.
It measures growth or decline relative to the original value: ((new − old) / old) × 100. A negative result is a decrease.
