Why does a MacBook rank above Windows laptops with higher benchmark scores?
Sustained thermal performance is 30% of the score, and unibody aluminium designs with no fan noise under normal load consistently hold their benchmark numbers longer than thinner Windows rivals.
Is gaming performance considered for laptops not marketed for gaming?
No — GPU-bound performance is only scored where it is an advertised part of the machine’s purpose. A creator laptop is not penalised for lacking a discrete GPU it was never meant to have.
How is battery life measured?
Against a mixed real workload — browser tabs, video calls, an IDE — rather than a single looping local video, which is why some laptops with long marketed battery life rank lower here.
Why is a $900 laptop ranked ahead of several $2,000+ machines?
Value at street price is 20% of the score and compounds with build quality — an excellent cheap laptop can outrank a mediocre expensive one.
