Running performance and lifestyle design are scored on separate expectations — a Vaporfly is not judged for how it looks with jeans. Resale premium is recorded but never allowed to inflate the underlying score.

About this ranking
Why does an old basketball shoe outrank a newer performance runner?
Design influence carries 20% of the score and compounds over decades. A silhouette that later designers still reference will outscore a technically superior shoe that changed nothing outside its own release year.
Are limited releases and collaborations eligible?
Only if the base silhouette is still in regular production. One-off collaboration colorways are treated as cosmetic variants of the shoe they’re built on, not separate entries.
How is durability actually measured?
Wherever independent teardown or long-term owner data exists, we use documented outsole wear and midsole compression rather than the brand’s own marketing claims.
Do running and lifestyle sneakers get scored the same way?
No. A racing flat is judged against racing flats and a lifestyle sneaker against lifestyle sneakers on comfort and durability; design influence and resale value are the only criteria compared across the whole list.
