A few chart-topping shows sit outside the top five here because the reporting underneath a slick presentation was thinner than it sounded; a couple of shows with far smaller audiences rank highly because their journalism directly changed a real outcome. Comedic true crime is eligible and judged fairly, not penalised simply for being funny.
