PDF Summarizer: what you'd pay elsewhere

AltFTool's PDF Summarizer pulls the text out of a PDF and builds a summary from the document's own highest-scoring sentences, free and in the browser. QuillBot Premium is US$8.33/month billed annually (US$99.95/year), and QuillBot's free Summarizer is limited to 1,200 words per run. The two tools do not work the same way: ours picks sentences that are already in the document, and it does not rewrite anything.

Summarizing a long PDF: what the paid tools charge

Each figure is read from the vendor's own page on the date shown. Software pricing drifts — if a number here disagrees with the vendor's page, trust theirs.

QuillBot Premium

USD list price

AI summarizing, paraphrasing and grammar checking of pasted text.

Entry price

US$8.33/month billed annually

Premium, annual plan

US$99.95 billed every twelve months (stated in QuillBot's own pricing FAQ)

Free tier

Free Summarizer up to 1,200 words; free Paraphraser up to 125 words and 2 modes.

The US$19.95 monthly price comes from QuillBot's FAQ article, not the Premium page, which showed only the annual figure. That FAQ's semi-annual line is internally inconsistent, so it is not quoted.

What each free tier actually allows

Whether you need to pay at all depends on where the free plan's ceiling sits. Here it is in each vendor's own terms.

QuillBot Premium

USD list price
  • QuillBot's free tier summarizes up to 1,200 words at a time (6,000 on Premium) and paraphrases up to 125 words in 2 modes (unlimited words and modes on Premium).

What the free PDF Summarizer does not do

A comparison that cannot say what its own tool gives up is an advert.

  • Extractive only. The summary is a selection of the document's own sentences, ranked by word frequency and position. It does not paraphrase, merge ideas or answer questions about the document the way an AI model does.
  • No OCR. A scanned or image-only PDF has no selectable text and the tool will tell you it cannot summarize it.
  • The sentence scoring uses an English stop-word list, so summaries of other languages will be noticeably weaker.
  • The PDF reading library (pdf.js) is loaded from the jsDelivr CDN when the tool starts, so it needs a network connection even though the document itself stays on your device.

What the free PDF Summarizer does

  • Reads text-based PDFs up to 80 MB and summarizes them in short, medium, detailed, bullet or executive modes
  • Shows keywords, page count and an estimated reading time, and exports the summary as a .txt file
  • The PDF is parsed in your browser; the summary is computed locally and the file is not uploaded to us

Questions people actually ask

Is this an AI summary?

No. It is a frequency-and-position algorithm that picks the sentences most likely to carry the main points. That makes it predictable and private, but it cannot rewrite or condense ideas. If you need a rewritten abstract, a language-model tool such as QuillBot is the better fit.
