About this tool
Work out the RBI turn around time for a failed ATM, UPI, IMPS, card, AePS, NACH or wallet transaction, the days of delay and the Rs 100 per day compensation owed.
This calculator works out how much money your bank already owes you for a failed transaction: it applies the turn around time table in RBI circular DPSS.CO.PD No.629/02.01.014/2019-20 dated 20 September 2019, finds the date the reversal was due, counts the days of delay past it, and multiplies by the Rs 100 per day compensation that every row of that Annex prescribes. It is for anyone whose account was debited without cash coming out of the ATM, without the merchant seeing the payment, or without the beneficiary being credited — on UPI, IMPS, cards, AePS, APBS, NACH or a wallet. Paragraph 5 of the same circular says the compensation is to be credited suo moto, without waiting for a complaint or claim, so the money is owed by default rather than on request. The page also shows when an RBI Ombudsman complaint becomes maintainable under clause 10(2)(a) of the Reserve Bank - Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2021: 30 days after a written complaint to the bank with no reply.

Names the item number in the TAT circular that fixes your deadline, from item 1(a) for ATMs to item 8(b) for wallets.
The circular defines T as the calendar date of the transaction, so weekends and holidays are inside the count, not excluded from it.
Shows the day the 30-day bank window closes and the last date an Ombudsman complaint stays within the one year and 30 day limit.
Rs 100 for every day of delay beyond the prescribed turn around time. That single rate applies to every row of the Annex to circular DPSS.CO.PD No.629/02.01.014/2019-20 dated 20 September 2019 — ATM, card, IMPS, UPI, AePS, APBS, NACH and prepaid instruments alike. Paragraph 5 of the circular requires the bank to credit it suo moto, without waiting for a complaint or claim from the customer.
T + 1 day for a UPI transfer where the beneficiary account is not credited, and T + 5 days for an ATM where cash was not dispensed. T is the calendar date of the transaction. Card-to-card transfers, IMPS, APBS, NACH and On-Us prepaid transactions are all T + 1; PoS, e-commerce, UPI merchant payments and AePS are all T + 5.
30 days after your written complaint reached the bank or payment system participant, if no reply has come. Clause 10(2)(a)(i) of the Reserve Bank - Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2021 also lets you go earlier if the bank has already rejected the complaint wholly or partly and you are not satisfied. Complaints are registered at cms.rbi.org.in.
One year from the date you received the bank's reply, or, where no reply came, one year and 30 days from the date of your complaint to the bank. That outer limit is in clause 10(2)(a)(ii) of RB-IOS, 2021. Clause 10(2)(b) also bars a complaint on the same cause of action that is already pending or settled before a court, tribunal or another Ombudsman.
