A 4K stream needs roughly 25 Mbps. Four of them at once, plus a video call and a download, still fits inside 150 Mbps. Almost everyone buying a 300 Mbps plan is buying headroom they will never use.
The numbers that actually matter
- FUP. An 'unlimited' plan with a 3,300 GB cap that then drops to 5 Mbps is not unlimited in any month you work from home heavily.
- Upload speed. Symmetric plans matter enormously for video calls and backups; asymmetric ones are fine for streaming and nothing else.
- Evening consistency. A connection that delivers its headline speed at 3pm and half of it at 9pm is worse than a slower plan that holds steady — and this is the number no operator publishes.
How to choose in practice
Pick the cheapest tier that clears your real concurrent load with room to spare, then spend the difference on the operator with the better local reputation rather than on more megabits. Where both JioFiber and Airtel Xstream are available, the choice is usually between Jio's OTT bundle and Airtel's consistency — and that is a genuine trade-off, not a marketing one.
Check the installation charge and whether it is waived on annual payment. It frequently is, and it is often the largest single line in the first bill.
