Text Translator: what you'd pay elsewhere

AltFTool's Text Translator translates text between 11 languages, free and without an account. DeepL Pro starts at €7.49/month billed annually for an individual; DeepL served us a euro storefront, so that is not a USD price. DeepL's free translator is also usable without paying, with a cap of 50,000 characters a month and 1 file translation.

Not a USD price. deepl.com/en/pro served euro prices for a Germany selection on 2026-11-01 and no USD figure was readable. The page advertises 'Save 16 % with annual billing' but showed no monthly-billing figures.

What each free tier actually allows

Whether you need to pay at all depends on where the free plan's ceiling sits. Here it is in each vendor's own terms.

DeepL Pro

Not a USD price
  • DeepL's free translator, per the comparison table on its Pro page: 50,000 characters per user per month, 1 file translation per month up to 5 MB, 1 glossary and 1 saved translation. Individual raises this to 300,000 characters and 3 file translations of up to 30 MB a month.

What the free Text Translator does not do

A comparison that cannot say what its own tool gives up is an advert.

  • The text is sent to Google's public translate endpoint (translate.googleapis.com) as part of the request URL. It is not translated on your device, and it is an unofficial endpoint that can change or throttle without notice.
  • 11 languages only, and no automatic language detection. DeepL and Google Translate cover far more.
  • No document translation. You cannot drop in a .docx or PDF and get it back with its layout, which is DeepL Pro's main reason to exist.
  • No glossary, no formal/informal tone control and no API. Long passages may fail because the text travels in the URL.

What the free Text Translator does

  • Translates between English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, Arabic and Hindi
  • One-click swap of source and target, which also swaps the text
  • No sign-in and no monthly character counter on our side

Questions people actually ask

Is DeepL free?

DeepL has a free translator. Its own plan table lists the free tier at 50,000 characters per user per month, 1 file translation per month up to 5 MB, and 1 glossary. Paying buys more characters, more and larger files, and more glossaries.
