Male and Female Condoms: Correct Use and Benefits

Condoms (external and internal) are unique because they are the only birth control method that provides dual protection: preventing both pregnancy and most Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) by blocking bodily fluids and reducing skin-to-skin contact.

1. Check the expiration date and the 'air bubble' in the packet. 2. Open carefully with your hands (do not use teeth or scissors). 3. Ensure the condom is right-side out (it should look like a little hat, not a pacifier). 4. Pinch the tip to remove air (leaving space for semen). 5. Roll it all the way down the erect penis. 6. After ejaculation, hold the base of the condom while withdrawing, and dispose of it in a trash bin (never flush it).

Store condoms in a cool, dry place. Extreme heat (like in a wallet or glove compartment) can degrade latex. Use water-based or silicone-based lubricants. Avoid oil-based lubricants (like lotion or petroleum jelly) with latex condoms, as oil can cause them to break.
