STI Testing: What to Expect, When to Go, and How Often

You should seek testing: • Before starting physical intimacy with a new partner. • Annually, as part of regular routine healthcare. • If you notice any symptoms or a condom breaks. • If a partner discloses they have tested positive for an STI.

STI testing is typically quick, painless, and highly confidential. It does not automatically test for everything; you should discuss your sexual history with the clinician. Tests involve: • Urine Sample: Commonly checks for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. • Blood Draw: Checks for HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis. • Swab (Oral, vaginal, urethral, or anal): Checks for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, or Herpes (if a sore is present).
