AltF NetCheck
Upload Speed Test
This upload speed test measures how fast your connection sends data, using three parallel streams of random data for 10 seconds against the nearest Cloudflare server, and reports the average in Mbps after warm-up. You need about 3 Mbps up for HD video calls, 6-10 Mbps to live stream in 1080p and 20 Mbps or more for comfortable cloud backups.

Your connection
Run a test to see your ISP, public IP (masked by default), approximate location and the server you were tested against.
The test talks to Cloudflare's speed-test servers, which see your IP address like any website does. AltFTool does not store your results; history stays in this browser.

Every test you run is saved here, in this browser only, so you can compare times of day, rooms or Wi-Fi vs cable. Nothing is uploaded.
Why upload is usually slower than download
Most cable (DOCSIS), DSL and many fibre plans are asymmetric: the provider allocates far more capacity to download because most households receive much more than they send. Symmetric fibre plans (for example 100/100 Mbps) are the exception. Mobile networks also upload more slowly, especially at the edge of coverage.
How much upload speed do you need?
- Voice calls: under 1 Mbps.
- HD video calls: about 3 Mbps per call (Zoom lists 3.0 Mbps for 1080p group video).
- Live streaming 1080p: about 6 Mbps; 4K: 20 Mbps or more.
- Cloud backup and large file sharing: 20-50 Mbps or more saves hours.
- Several people on calls at once: add up each person's need.
How to improve upload speed
- Use Ethernet; Wi-Fi upload is often hit harder than download by distance.
- Pause cloud photo and backup sync while you are on a call or streaming.
- Check your plan's upload figure; it is often listed in the small print.
- Ask about symmetric fibre if you stream, work with large files or run a home server.
Upload Speed Test FAQ
What is a good upload speed?
For most people 10 Mbps or more is good: it handles several HD video calls and live streaming. Creators and remote workers with big files benefit from 50 Mbps or more.
Why is my upload speed so slow?
Usually because the plan is asymmetric, or because Wi-Fi, a busy line (cloud backup running) or a weak mobile signal is limiting it. Test on a cable with other uploads paused.
Does upload speed affect gaming?
A little. Games send small amounts of data, so 1-5 Mbps is usually enough, but a saturated upload (someone backing up photos) can raise ping sharply. That is bufferbloat.
