QR Generator: what you'd pay elsewhere

AltFTool's QR Generator makes static QR codes for URLs, text, Wi-Fi, contact cards and UPI payments, with colour, a logo and bulk generation from a CSV, free. Bitly's Core plan is US$10/month, annual only (US$120/year), and its Free plan allows 2 QR codes a month. What Bitly sells is dynamic codes: a code that redirects through Bitly, can be re-pointed later and counts scans.

What each free tier actually allows

Whether you need to pay at all depends on where the free plan's ceiling sits. Here it is in each vendor's own terms.

Bitly

USD list price
  • Bitly Free is $0/month with ads: 2 QR codes and 5 links per month, 2 landing pages and 3 custom back-halves, with unlimited clicks and scans. Redirects, branded links, a custom QR logo, pattern customisation, QR expiration and bulk creation are not included.

What the free QR Generator does not do

A comparison that cannot say what its own tool gives up is an advert.

  • Static codes only. The destination is baked into the image, so a printed code cannot be re-pointed later, and there is no expiry.
  • No scan analytics. The tool cannot tell you how many people scanned a code or where; Bitly counts every scan because each one passes through its redirect.
  • PNG only, at a maximum of 300 pixels. There is no SVG or vector export for large-format print.
  • Payloads are capped at about 1,200 bytes, so long text will not fit.

What the free QR Generator does

  • Website/text, Wi-Fi, vCard contact and UPI payment payloads, encoded at the highest error-correction level
  • Custom colour, three sizes and an optional centre logo
  • Bulk mode: upload a .csv or .txt with one value per line and download one PNG per row

Questions people actually ask

Will these QR codes stop working?

No. A static code contains the URL or data itself, so it keeps working as long as the destination does. The trade-off is that it cannot be edited or tracked. Dynamic codes from a service like Bitly can be changed and counted, but they depend on that service staying in place.
