Cleanings, exams & X-rays
The twice-a-year visit most people skip when money is tight, then pay for later. A new-patient visit usually bundles an exam, a set of bitewing X-rays and an adult cleaning. If there is gum inflammation and pocketing, the office may recommend scaling and root planing instead — a different, deeper procedure that is billed by quadrant, not as a routine cleaning. Ask which one you are being quoted.
Typical self-pay: $95 to $250 for a new-patient exam, X-rays and a routine cleaning
